ਟੈਕਸਟ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਕਰਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਕੁਝ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਹਨ। ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਹੱਥ-ਲਿਖਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ 382 ਜਾਂ 383 ਅਧਿਆਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੰਡਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿੱਚ 12,000 ਤੋਂ 15,000 ਆਇਤਾਂ ਹਨ। ਪਾਠ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਏ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਸਦੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਸੱਤਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸੰਸਕਰਣ, ਪਰ ਗਿਆਰ੍ਹਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, 11ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਫਾਰਸੀ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਅਲ-ਬਿਰੂਨੀ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਅਗਨੀ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟਾ ਪਾਠ 17ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦਾ ਹੈ।
